Bretagne – Morgensonne

  

Morgensonne über der Bucht von An Amied.

Das Wasser verschwand viel zu schnell und die Sonne stieg noch schneller, selbst die Wolken verzogen sich ... ich hab mein Motiv komplett verloren, deswegen wurde das Ergebnis wohl ein wenig expressionistischer als sonst.

The water disappeared far too quickly and the sun rose even faster, even the clouds dispersed ... the result became a little more expressive than usual.

Bretagne – Ebbe Pools

 

Und wieder bestimmt die Suche nach einem windgeschützten Standort die Wahl meines Motivs.

Ich fing in der Sonne an, dann zog es aber leider wieder zu, was die schönen Farben sehr dämpfte. Dazu drehte sich der Wind auch noch und ich verlor meinen Windschutz 🥴.

Bretgane - Ebbe und Möwen

Dieses Bild habe ich auf meiner eigenen kleinen Privat-Insel bei Ebbe gemalt (eine meiner besseren Ideen an einem sonnigen Sonntag: ein guter Schutz vor neugierigen Besuchern).

Als das Wasser zurückging, verschwanden leider auch die Möwen.

I painted this one on my own little private island at low tide (one of my better ideas on a sunny Sunday: good protection from curious visitors).

Unfortunately, when the water receded, the seagulls disappeared too.

 

Bretgane – Vollmond Nocturne

 

Das ist das Ergebnis meiner Nocturne von letzter Nacht ... Bin ich froh, dass ich mich noch mal vom Sofa vor dem Kamin aufgerafft habe, um noch mal draußen zu malen - es hat echt Spaß gemacht, weil das so gut klappte -  und das Ergebnis hat mich heute Morgen angenehm überrascht:

wie immer dunkler als gemalt – und dadurch besser als gedacht.

This is the result of my nocturne from last night ... I'm glad I got up from the sofa in front of the fireplace to paint outside again - it was really fun because it worked so well - and the result pleasantly surprised me this morning:
as always, darker than painted - and therefore better than expected.

 

Bretgane – Dünen

Ich habe diesen fast frühlingshaften Tag in den schönen Dünen des Plage des Amiets verbracht.

Nicht nur das Licht änderte sich sehr schnell, auch die Flut kam ... Ich glaube, ich muss dort wieder malen!

Zum Glück habe ich hier jetzt auch ein Rad, so dass ich meinen Aktionsradius noch weiter ausdehnen kann.

I spent this almost spring-like day in the beautiful dunes of the Plage des Amiets.
Not only the light changed very quick, also the tide came … I think I have to paint there again!

Luckily I have a bike here, so I can extend my action radius even further.

Bretgane – noch mehr Brandung

Weil das Meer immer noch so brodelt und tost, habe ich noch mal ein Brandungsbild gemalt - das machte so Spaß, dass ich erst aufhörte als die Dämmerung einbrach und ich langsam nix mehr sehen konnte.

Ich habe das Anstehen des Bildes gefilmt - und just in dem Moment wo ich das "Spratzeln" mit dem Bürstenpinsel machte, kippte die Kamera - was ich erst kurz danach merkte. Mal gucken, ob ich das Video dennoch schneide und auf meine Website lade ... weil eigentlich fehlt ja nun der spannendste Teil.

Malprozess

 Because the sea was still bubbling and roaring, I painted another surf painting - it was so much fun that I only stopped when dusk fell and I could no longer see anything.

I filmed the painting in progress - and just at the moment I was "splashing" with the brush, the camera tilted - which I only realised shortly afterwards. Let's see if I can still edit the video and upload it to my website ... because the most interesting part is actually missing now.

Bretgane – tosende Brandung

 

Obwohl es nicht mehr besonders windig ist, haben wir richtig fette Wellen, das sind wohl noch die Nachwirkungen vom Sturm.

Nachdem ich beim letzten Brandungsbild das Tosen und Brechen und Sprühen nicht zu meiner Zufriedenheit einfangen konnte, habe ich bei diesem Bild solange gemalt, bis ich zufrieden war.

Das wurde schon fast ein Action-Painting :-)

Der Wind war anfangs moderat, so dass ich komfortabel unterm Schirm malen konnte, aber gegen Ende frischte er auf und ich musste den ganzen Aufbau ständig mit einer Hand festhalten...

Although it is no longer particularly windy, we have really big waves, which are probably still the after-effects of the storm.

After I wasn't able to capture the roaring and breaking and spraying to my satisfaction in the last surf painting, I painted this one until I was satisfied.

It almost became an action painting :-)

The wind was moderate at the beginning, so I could paint comfortably under the umbrella, but towards the end it picked up and I had to hold the whole set-up with one hand all the time...

 

Bretgane – Nocturne

Heute war ich ein frühes Vögelchen:

Vom Mondlicht geweckt, beschloss ich, eine Nocturne zu malen: das ist der Monduntergang, ca. eine Stunde vor Sonnenaufgang, der hier tatsächlich erst um neun ist.

Ich musste die LED-Lampen immer an-und ausschalten, sonst hätte mein Motiv gar nicht sehen können. Wieder profitierte ich von der Helligkeit des LEDs: ich mal eigentlich alles vile heller, aber ohne das LED, bei normalem Tageslicht, ist dann alles richtig dunkel, was so eine Nocturne ja eigentlich auch besser macht :-)

Dann bin ich schnell zurück ins Häuschen, um mich aufzuwärmen und um endlich meinen Morgen Kaffee zu trinken.

Today I was an early bird:

Waked up by the moon light I decided to paint a nocturne: this is the moonset an hour before sunrise.

I had to switch off the LED lamps to observe the scene, and on to see what I am painting …

Then I had to hurry home to warm up and finally get my coffee!

Bretagne – Brandung, ein Versuch

 

Die Wellen werden immer doller – ich habe versucht dieses Getöse einzufangen, bin aber noch gar nicht zufrieden damit, das muss ich wohl noch mal versuchen ...

The waves are getting bigger and bigger - I've tried to capture this roar, but I'm not satisfied with it yet, I'll have to try again ...
 

Bretagne – Strand im Regen

Ein weiterer Blick aus dem Windschatten - dieses Mal bei Ebbe (und Nieselregen).

Trotz der widrigen Umstände: Ich bin liebe diese ganz besondere Atmosphäre der Bretagne im Winter.

Bretagne – Brandung und Spiegelung

 

Das Meer war heute spektakulär!

Leider machte der immer noch stürmische Wind die Motivwahl schwierig - aber zum Glück fand ich ein ruhiges Plätzchen ...

Nach etwa 45 Minuten war das Bild eigentlich schon besser (wenn auch noch nicht fertig, da der "Sturm" noch fehlte), weil es viel klarer war - ich habe definitiv zu lange daran gearbeitet (75 Minuten).

The sea was spectacular today!

Unfortunately the still stormy wind made it difficult to choose a subject - but luckily I found a quiet spot ...

After about 45 minutes the picture was actually better (although not finished as the "storm" was still missing) because it was much clearer - I definitely worked too long on it (75 minutes).

 

Bretagne – Brandung am Strand

Der für heute Nacht vorhergesagte Sturm kündigt sich mit großen Wellen an ... als ich mit dem Malen Anfing war es sogar fast warm mit der Sonne im Windschatten .

Bretagne – Strand bei Ebbe

Ein weiterer Tag fast ohne Wind, das musste ich sofort ausnutzen und stellte mich in die Mitte der Ebbe am Strand Les Amiets. vor allem, da ab heute Nacht Windgeschwindigkeiten bis 100 km/h angesagt wurden!

Another day with almost no wind, I had to take advantage of this immediately and stood in the middle of the low tide on Les Amiets beach, especially as wind speeds of up to 100 km/h were forecast for tonight!

Bretagne – Corps de Garde de Lavillo

Heute war es fast windstill, so hatte ich freie Platz- und Motivwahl.

Die Spiegelung der Wachhäuschen sah bei meiner morgendlichen Laufrunde so schön aus, dass ich schnell mein Malzeug holte, um es zu malen.

Das Licht hat sich total verändert, als ich anfing hatten die Felsen alle noch Sonne - mit dem Schatten am Ende hätte es wohl die schöneren Kontraste im Bild gegeben ...

Dafür hat ich mit den Gezeiten Glück: während ich malte kam das Wasser und ging - so moderat, dass ich fast  die ganze Zeit die schöne Spiegelung sehen konnte, und nur ein bisschen nach hinten ausweichen musste (dank meiner Gummistiefel :-))

There was almost no wind today, so I had a free choice of location and subject.

The reflection of the guardhouses looked so beautiful on my morning run that I quickly got out my painting kit to paint it.

The light had changed completely, when I started the rocks were all still in the sun - the shadow at the end would probably have given the painting more beautiful contrasts ...

But I was lucky with the tides: while I was painting, the water came and went - so moderately that I could see the beautiful reflection almost all the time, and only had to move back a little (thanks to my wellies :-))

Bretagne – Ebbe Felsen

Heute windete es so stark, dass ich nur im Schutz eines großen Felsen malen konnte – und der Blick, den ich von dort hatte, bestimmte meine Motivwahl. Ich entschied mich mal näher dran zu malen ...

Es ist schwierig, die Größenverhältnisse rüber zu bringen ohne Menschen im Bild - der große Felsen ist fast mannshoch, selbst die Algen sind riesig, die "Stiele" die aus dem Sand ragen sind bus zu einen halben Meter lang - über die "Rinnsale" muss man mit Anlauf springen :-)

The wind was so strong today that I could only paint in the shelter of a large rock - and the view I had from there determined my choice of subject. I decided to paint closer to it ...

It's difficult to get the scale across without people in the painting - the big rock is almost as high as a man, even the algae are huge, the "stalks" sticking out of the sand are up to half a metre long - you have to take a running jump over the "rivulets" :-)
 

Bretagne - Küste im Regen

 

Selbst bei Regenwetter hat die Bretagne ( wie ich finde) ganz besonders schöne Farben. Die Staffelung der Felsen in der diesigen Luft finde ich besonders reizvoll.

Even in rainy weather, Brittany (in my opinion) has particularly beautiful colours. I find the staggering of the rocks in the hazy air particularly attractive.

Ich bin wieder an meinem Herzensort angekommen: la Bretagne!

Wegen des Windes hatte ich keine ganz so freie Motivwahl sondern musste das malen, was ich aus dem Windschatten der Felsen aus sehen konnte: aber hier esse ja fast jeder Blick malenswert :-)

Ich versuche das frisch erlebte lockerere Malen auch hier beizubehalten, was mir wie ich weiß schwer fällt, wenn ich meinen (schönen) Motiven zu sehr gerecht werden will.

Insofern war es sehr gut, dass ich nach 1 Std aufhören musste, weil es einfach zu kalt wurde: dadurch habe ich keine Zeit für Frickeleien gehabt :-)

I have returned to my favourite place: la Bretagne!

Because of the wind, I didn't have such a free choice of subject but had to paint what I could see from the lee of the rocks: but almost every view here is worth painting :-)

I'm trying to maintain the looser painting I've just experienced here, which I know is difficult for me if I want to do too much justice to my (beautiful) motifs.

In this regard, it was very good that I had to stop after 1 hour because it simply got too cold: that meant I didn't have time for fiddling :-)

Lichter der Stadt – Rohrbachstraße Nordend

 

Diesen Blick auf mein Viertel habe ich gestern Abend in der Dämmerung gemalt.

Ich habe ein paar Dinge ausprobiert, hat aber nicht alles geklappt ... Durch den Zeitdruck beim Pleinairmalen verliere ich da draußen mein eigentliches Ziel schnell aus den Augen.

Als die Dämmerung dann zur Nacht wurde, habe ich noch dazu meine Vorlage verloren ....Das Bild ganz unten zeigt wie ich diesen Blick vor 8 Jahren gemalt habe.

I painted this view of my neighbourhood last night at dusk.

I tried a few things, but not everything worked out ... Due to the time pressure of plein air painting, I quickly lose sight of my actual goal.

When dusk turned to night, I also lost my template .... The picture at the bottom shows how I painted this view 8 years ago.
