Ostsee Pleinair Festival – Kutter Anna Lena in Hafen von Kühlungsborn

  

Am Donnertag war der erste Tag des freien Malens des Ostsee Pleinair Festivals – den ich mit den anderen Maler*innen, die ich jedes jähr dort treffe, im Hafen von Kühlungsborn verbracht habe.

ich habe dieses Motiv gewählt, weil ich die Lücke zischen dem Kutter und dem Pier so interessant fand (und es am Tag zuvor bei einem anderen Maler entdeckt hatte) und total unterschätzt, wie lange ich dann an dem drum rum (dem Boot) malen musste.

Deswegen habe ich an diesem Tag nur ein Bild gemalt ...

Ich aber froh, mich mit diesem komplexen Motiv aus meine Komfortzone gewagt zu haben.

Thursday was the first day of open painting at the Baltic Sea Plein Air Festival—which I spent in the harbor of Kühlungsborn with the other artists I meet there every year.

I chose this subject because I found the gap between the cutter and the pier so interesting (and had spotted it the day before while watching another painter) and totally underestimated how long it would take me to paint the surrounding area (the boat).

That’s why I only painted one picture that day...

But I’m glad I ventured out of my comfort zone with this complex subject.

Ostsee Pleinair Festival – Ostseeküste mit Glitzer

 

Auch das 2. Motiv des Tages wählten wir vor allem wegen des windgeschützten Platzes hinter einer Klippe ...

Ich fand es tatsächlich erst ein bisschen langweilig, dann blitzte aber die Sonne durch und zauberte diesen wunderschönen Glitzer auf das Wasser. 

We calso hose the second motif of the day mainly because it was sheltered from the wind behind a cliff...

I actually found it a bit boring at first, but then the sun broke through and cast this beautiful glimmer on the water. 

Ostsee Pleinair Festival - Rapsfeld

Ich bin beim Ostsee Pleinair Festival angekommen – und das ist das 1. Bild, das ich dort zusammen mit Torsten Wolber gemalt habe.

Wir hatten keine große Auswahl beim Motiv, denn es war so unglaublich windig, dass wir uns einen windgeschützen Platz suchen musste – und dann einfach das malten, was wi von dort aus sehen konnten.

Manchmal ist diese Limitierung aber ganz gut, um einen neuen Blick bei der Motivsuche zu bekommen ...

I’ve arrived at the Ostsee Pleinair Festival—and this is the first painting I did there together with Torsten Wolber.

We didn’t have much choice when it came to the subject, because it was so incredibly windy that we had to find a spot sheltered from the wind—and then just paint what we could see from there.

Sometimes, though, this limitation is actually good for gaining a fresh perspective when looking for a subject... 

 

Segelclub Otterstadt

Diese Boote liegen im Hafen des  Otterstädter Segelclubs am Rhein (auf Höhe der Leberwurstinsel - cooler Name, oder?).

Ich war total geflashed von den brillianten Farben in der gleißenden Sonne - das bin ich aus dem Wald gar nicht mehr gewohnt …

Dieses Motiv ist eine schöne Einstimmung für mich: nächste Woche bin ich beim Ostsee Pleinair Festival in Kühlungsborn und werde bestimmt noch mal Boote malen. Ich freu mich schon …!

These boats are moored in the harbor of the Otterstadt Sailing Club on the Rhine (near Leberwurst Island—cool name, right?).

I was totally blown away by the brilliant colors in the glistening sun—I’m not used to that at all coming from the forest…

This scene is a nice way to get me in the mood: next week I’ll be at the Ostsee Pleinair Festival in Kühlungsborn and will definitely be painting boats again. I’m really looking forward to it…!

Löwenzahn

 

Das ist eins meiner jährlich wiederkehrenden Motive: Ich kann den Löwenzahblüten einfach nicht widerstehen…

Dabei besteht immer ein bisschen die Gefahr sich selbst zu kopieren — deswegen entschied ich mich für die Aufsicht, um wenigstens einen anderen Winkel als letztes Jahr zu zeigen. 

 

Ich zeig mal die vorigen (zumindest eine Auswahl).

There’s always a bit of a risk of repeating myself—so I decided to shoot from above to at least show a different angle than last year.

I’ll share some of the previous ones (at least a selection).

Rehbach bei Hassloch/Pfalz

 

Immerhin eine Tag konnte ich nutzen um endlich wieder zu malen:

Wir sind an den Rehbach nach Hassloch gefahren - eine wunderschöne Location, die ein Tipp eines Malerkollegens war.

Ich hoffe die frühlingliche leichte und warme Stimmung des Tages an diesem des Ortesfreidliche Ort kommt rüber....

At least I was able to take a day off to finally paint again:

We drove to the Rehbach in Hassloch—a beautiful spot that a fellow painter had recommended.

I hope the light, warm, spring-like atmosphere of the day at this idyllic location comes through....

Frühlingsblüten

 

Obwohl ich nur wenig Zeit hatte, hatte ich das große Bedürfnis wenigstens noch ein Frühlingsblütenbild zu malen... ich habe deswegen nur kurz im Park nebenan diesen Ausschnitt eines Schlehenbusches gemalt.

Mein Ziel war es diese Fluffigkeit der vielen feinen Blüten einzufangen. Was ich leider nicht einfangen konnte, war ihr sehr intensivee Duft.

Although I didn’t have much time, I really felt the urge to paint at least one more painting of spring blossoms... so I quickly sketched this detail of a blackthorn bush in the park next door.

My goal was to capture the fluffy texture of the many delicate blossoms. Unfortunately, I couldn’t capture their very intense fragrance.

Magnolien

Einmal im Jahr "muss" ich Magnolien malen:

Das Zeitfenster ist immer recht klein, die hier malte ich kurz bevor der Frost noch mal zurück kam und die Blüten alle gelb verfärbte.

Mein Lernkurve ist deswegen relativ flach, ich kann zwar immer das in der Zwischenzeit neu erlernte anwenden, aber mit nur einem Magnolienbild pro Jahr fang ich gefühlt jedesmal von vorne an....

Unten zeige ich mal meine bisherigen Magnolienbilder, das erste malte ich 2016.

Once a year, I “have to” paint magnolias:

The window of opportunity is always quite short; I painted these just before the frost returned and turned all the blossoms yellow.

My learning curve is relatively flat because of this; while I can always apply what I’ve learned in the meantime, with only one magnolia painting a year, I feel like I’m starting from scratch every time....
