Bretagne Tag 4 – Sturm

  

Nachdem ich gestern wegen des starken Windes nicht gemalt habe, bin ich heute los, obwohl der Wind nun richtig stürmische wurde (in Böen 68 km/h).

Doch mit jeder Minute, die ich die Wellen und die Himmel beobachtete konnte ich es weniger aushalten das nicht zu malen!

Zum Glück habe ich einen relativ geschützten Spot in der Nähe gefunden – doch ich musste immer mit einer Hand die Leinwand festhalten, sonst wäre mir alles davon geflogen ...

Aber die Wolken, die Wellen und die unglaublichen Farben waren das absolut wert!

Since I didn’t paint yesterday because of the strong wind, I went out today even though the wind had turned into a full-blown storm (with gusts of 68 km/h).

But with every minute I spent watching the waves and the sky, I found it harder and harder to resist painting!

Luckily, I found a relatively sheltered spot nearby—but I had to hold the canvas with one hand the whole time, otherwise everything would have blown away...

But the clouds, the waves, and the incredible colors were absolutely worth it!

Bretagne Tag 2 – Blick zur Ile de Batz

Heute war das Wetter schon viel besser, wenn auch der Wind um einiges stärker wurde.

Da er aus Westen kam, haben wir uns einen windgeschützen Platz gesucht, und den Blick nach Osten zur Ile de Batz gemalt.

Die Farben im Wasser waren unglaublich schön, die kommen auf dem Foto leider gar nicht rüber.

Dort unten hinter den Felsen am Garde d´Amiet haben wir gar nicht mitbekommen wie stürmisch es eigentlich war – es hat uns auf dem Heimweg fast weggeblasen...!

The weather was much better today, even though the wind picked up quite a bit.

Since it was coming from the west, we looked for a spot sheltered from the wind and painted the view to the east toward Ile de Batz.

The colors in the water were incredibly beautiful; unfortunately, they don’t come across at all in the photo.

Down there behind the rocks at Garde d’Amiet, we didn’t even realize how stormy it actually was—it almost blew us away on the way home...!

Bretagne Tag 1 – im Regen

Je suis retournée!

Endlich bin ich wieder zurück in der Bretagne – und egal wie das Wetter ist (kühl und regnerisch: es ist so wunderbar wieder diese großartigen Motive malen zu können!

Meine Herausforderung in diesem Jahr wird sein, mich nicht selbst zu kopieren, wenn ich bereits gemalte Motive erneut male. Ich muss es irgendwie schaffen, einen neuen Ansatz zu finden.

... sonst lerne ich nicht dazu und schlimmer noch: langweilig ich mich selbst.

Je suis retournée!

I'm finally back in Brittany—and no matter what the weather is like (cool and rainy), it's so wonderful to be able to paint these amazing scenes again!

My challenge this year will be to avoid copying myself when I revisit scenes I've already painted. I have to find a way to come up with a new approach.

... otherwise I won’t learn anything new, and worse yet: I’ll bore myself.

Rhododendron

Um diesen Rhododendron bin ich seit Tagen herumgeschlichen:

Ich war mir nicht sicher, wie un tob ich dieses für mich neue Motiv malen sollte.

Doch als ich es dann tat, war es viel leichter als gedacht und hat zudem richtig viel Spaß gemacht!

Das Ergebnis fällt definitiv in die Kategorie:"mich selbst überraschen".

I’ve been circling this rhododendron for days:I wasn’t sure how I should go about painting this subject, which was new to me.

But once I got started, it was much easier than I thought—and it was actually a lot of fun!

The result definitely falls into the “surprising myself” category.

Pusteblume

Fast genau 4 Wochen, nachdem der Löwenzahn so schön gelb geblüht hat, hatte ich diese wunderschönen Pusteblumen in meinem Garten.

Der schattige Platz im Wald zauberte diese herrliche Lichtstimmung, der Löwenzahn wurde wie mit einem Spot beleuchtet – aber der wanderte dann doch ganz schön schnell....

Aber das Leuchten - das hab ich !

 Almost exactly four weeks after the dandelions bloomed so beautifully in yellow, I had these gorgeous dandelion puffs in my garden.

The shady spot in the woods created this wonderful play of light; the dandelion was lit up as if by a spotlight—but that light moved on pretty quickly....

But the glow—I’ve got that!

Ostsee Pleinair Festival – Felsen und Wellen am Nachmittag

 

Und zum Abschluss des Ostsee Pleinair Festivals haben wir noch ein letztes Bild zusammen am Strand gemalt.

Das ist die gleiche Stelle wie am Vormittag, doch bei ganz anderem Licht... diesem ganz wunderschönen Malelicht, dass wir beim freien Malen leider nie malen können, da die Abgabe der Bilder immer schon vor 17 Uhr sein muss.

Schön wars wieder mal – ich freue mich schon sehr auf nächstes Jahr!!

And to wrap up the Ostsee Pleinair Festival, we painted one last painting together on the beach.

It’s the same spot as this morning, but in completely different light… that absolutely beautiful light for painting that we unfortunately never get to paint in when we’re painting for the Festival, since the paintings always have to be turned in before 5 p.m.

It was wonderful once again—I’m already really looking forward to next year!!

Ostsee Pleinair Festival – Felsen und Wellen am Vormittag

Am Samstag war dann die gemeinschaftliche Ausstellung des Ostsee Pleinair Festival mit allen Bildern die in den 2 Tagen beim freien Malen entstanden sind.

Währen wir auf die Eröffnung wartetet, malten wir (in dem nicht mehr ganz so dollen, aber dennoch kühlen Wind) diese Felsen und Wellen. So geht die Zeit echt schnell rum!

Einladung mit meinem Bild aus dem letzten Jahr

On Saturday, the group exhibition of the Ostsee Pleinair Festival took place, featuring all the paintings created during the two days of plein air painting.

While we waited for the opening, we painted these rocks and waves (in the wind, which wasn’t quite as strong but was still cool). Time really flies when you’re having fun!

Ostsee Pleinair Festival – Riesenrad Strandpromenade Kühlungsborn

Das ist noch so ein aus der (Wind-) Not geborenes Motiv: ich glaube nicht dass ich mir sowas komplexes wie das Riesenrad auf  der Ufer-Promenade bei freier Platzwahl ausgesucht hätte. Immerhin konnte ich es mit leicht machen, in dem ich das Rad direkt von der Seit malte und so viel wenige Detail (und Ellipsen) malen musste.

Mit im Bild ist noch mal der DLRG Turm Nr. 6, den ich Schin am vormittag malte – dieses mal von der anderen Seite.

This is another motif born out of necessity (or rather, the wind): I don’t think I would have chosen something as complex as the Ferris wheel on the waterfront promenade if I’d had my pick of subjects. At least I made it easier on myself by painting the wheel directly from the side, which meant I had to paint far fewer details (and ellipses).

Also in the picture is DLRG Tower No. 6, which I had already painted that morning—this time from the other side.
