Das ist der wunderschöne Blick von meinem Elternhaus in Richtung Odenwald.

Ich liebe diese blasse diesige Atmosphäre mit den blauen Hügeln im Contre Jour Licht....

This is the beautiful view from my parents' house toward the Odenwald.

I love this pale, hazy atmosphere with the blue hills bathed in backlight....

Pfälzer Wald im Frühling

 

Schon wenige Tage nach dem Schnee ist es ganz mild und warm – und man spürt den Frühling.

Die Sonne schafft es (weiter oben) auch noch nachmittags über den Berg und so habe ich dieses Contre Jour Bild im Kiefernwald gemalt – mit wunderschönem Durchlicht in den kleinen Buchen, die wohl vergessen haben im Herbst ihr Laub anzuwerfen.

Just a few days after the snow, it is already quite mild and warm—and you can feel spring in the air.

The sun still manages to shine over the mountain (higher up) in the afternoon, so I painted this contre-jour picture in the pine forest—with beautiful light shining through the small beech trees, which seem to have forgotten to shed their leaves in autumn.

Schilf in der Wintersonne

Heute kam die Sonne noch mal raus – und wärmte tatsächlich schon ein bisschen (wobei der See noch immer eine dünne Eisschicht hat).

Dieses Bild malte ich begleitet vom Gurgeln des Überlaufs und dem Rascheln des Schilfs... ich hab mich sehr wohl gefühlt: wahrscheinlich hab ich deshalb etwas länger als sonst (und deswegen auch detaillierter) gemalt.

Today, the sun came out again – and actually warmed things up a little (although the lake still has a thin layer of ice on it).

I painted this one accompanied by the gurgling of the overflow and the rustling of the reeds... I felt very comfortable: that's probably why I painted a little longer than usual (and therefore in more detail).

Birken in der Wintersonne

 

Keine Ahnung, was mich geritten hat an dem bisher kältesten Tag des Winters mit meinem Malzeug loszuziehen... ach doch: ich weiß es wieder:

Es ist das wunderschöne Licht der flachstehenden Sonne und die tolle Farbigkeit des Raureifs.

I have no idea what possessed me to set off with my painting equipment on the coldest day of winter so far... oh yes, I remember again:

it's the beautiful light of the low sun and the amazing colors of the hoarfrost.

Art Retreat Vogesen – Tag 3

 Das ist noch so ein Motiv, dass ich die letzten beiden Tage observiert habe – und gestern schon mal versuchte zu malen, was leider gar nicht geklappt hatte.

Dann hatte Torsten das gestern auch noch so schön gemalt: ich habe es also erneut versucht.

Keine Ahnung, was das war: ich habe so mit dem Motiv gekämpft, wie schon lange nicht mehr.

Erst als ich das 3. Tuch ergänzte, ging die Komposition endlich auf und ich habe beschlossen das Bild jetzt so zu lassen.

This is another motif that I have been observing for the last two days – and yesterday I tried to paint it, but unfortunately it didn't work out at all.

Then Torsten painted it so beautifully yesterday: so I tried again today.

I don't know what it was: I struggled with the motif like I haven't done in a long time.

It was only when I added the third cloth that the composition finally came together, and I decided to leave the painting as it is.

Schrebergarten im Gegenlicht

Auf dem Weg in den Wald bin ich neulich im Abendlicht an diesem wunderschönen Schrebergarten vorbeirgeradelt: die flach stehende Sonne beleuchtete die Hütte von hinten ganz besonders schön – dieses Leuchten wollte ich unbedingt. malen.

Alson bin ich gestern Abend noch mal rausgeradelt und hab's gemalt.
Ich bin ganz glücklich mit dem Bild: ich habe genau das, was mir beim Vorbeirradeln so gefiel mit dem Pinsel einfangen können.

Wie ihr seht, habe ich eine neue Poachadebox:
Sie wurde mit vom PapaPavloArtTools zur Verfügung gestellt, um sie zu testen und ich finde sie wunderschön: Sie hat viele liebevolle Details, ist durchdacht und sauber verarbeitet.

Fürs ganz kleine Gepäck ist sie ein bisschen sperrig, wegen der Flügelschrauben die herausragen, aber wenn man mit dem Auto unterwegs ist, ist sie super praktisch: Mann kann das feuchte Ölbild einfach in Deckel belassen, der nach aussen gedreht wird beim Schließen der Box und das Bild wie mit einem Koffer transportieren. On my way to the forest the other day, I cycled past this beautiful allotment garden in the evening light: the low sun illuminated the hut from behind in a particularly beautiful way – I really wanted to capture this glow in a painting.

So yesterday evening, I cycled out there again and painted it.

I'm very happy with the picture: I was able to capture exactly what I liked so much when I cycled past with my brush.

As you can see, I have a new Poachadebox:

Burg Herstelle

Am 4. Tag meine Pleinairmalerei Workshops auf der Burg Herstelle haben wir diese verlassen, sind mit der Fähre über die Weser gesetzt – und haben von dort den Blick auf die Burg gemalt.

Das war mein Demobild – dass ich in die Sonne blinzelnd Contre Jour gemalt habe.

 

On the fourth day of my plein air painting workshop at Herstelle Castle, we left the castle, took the ferry across the Weser River, and painted the view of the castle from there.

This was my demo painting—which I painted in contre jour, squinting into the sun.

Bretagne – Abendlicht

 

 

Den (endlich!) fast sonnigen Tag habe ich genutzt und abends noch dieses Contre Jour Bild gemalt:

Danach habe ich überall tanzende Pünktchen gesehen 😎

I took advantage of the (finally!) almost sunny day and painted this Contre Jour painting in the evening.

Afterwards I saw dancing dots everywhere 😎

Bretagne – Felsen in der Ebbe

Die kurze Regenpause heute habe ich zum Malen genutzt:

Das Bild habe ich glaub dreimal gemalt: ich musste ständig die Tonwerte anpassen, das Licht hat sich minütlich geändert. Mal war das Meer heller, mal dunkler als der Himmel, die Felsen waren erst nur eine Silhouette, plötzlich hell, dann wieder dunkel.

Auch den Sand musste ich deutlich dunkler übermalen, da ssich onst die kleinen Priele, deren Wasser das helle Sonnenlicht reflektierten, nicht deutlich genug abhoben ...

Dieses mal eine sehr ineffiziente Malweise :-)

Vorab hatte ich eine ganz schnelle kleine Ölskizze gemalt, da war alles noch ganz simpel.

 

I used the short break in the rain today to paint:

I think I painted this piece three times: I had to constantly adjust the tonal values, the light changed by the minute. Sometimes the sea was lighter, sometimes darker than the sky, the rocks were just a silhouette at first, then suddenly bright, then dark again.

I also had to paint over the sand much darker, as the small tideways, whose water reflected the bright sunlight, did not stand out clearly enough ...

A very inefficient painting method this time :-)

I had painted a quick little oil sketch beforehand, so everything was still quite simple.

Frühlingsweg

 Mittlerweile isses so richtig Frühling - es ist war, es grünt und blüht...

Dieses Bild habe ich früh morgens in den Feldern gemalt, die Schatten wanderten extrem schnell. Ich bin froh diesen Winkel der Schatten erwischt zu haben, dass sie den Betrachter direkt ins Bild leiten.

It's really spring now - it's warm, green and blooming...

I painted this scene early in the morning in the fields, the shadows were moving extremely fast. I'm glad I caught this angle of the shadows so that they lead the viewer directly into the painting.

Eppental im Frühling

Fast genau den gleichen Blick hatte ich schon mal im Herbst gemalt (s.unten) – leider hab  ich`s verbummelt ihn auch im Winter zu malen, das hätte eine schöne Reihe ergeben.

Wie so oft sank die Sonne etwas zu schnell, aber der Zeitdruck half mir wieder einmal sehr dabei, schön locker zu bleiben. So habe ich den Hintergrund ganz vereinfacht mit nur ein paar groben Pinselstrichen in der Untermalung angelegt, und bin selbst ganz verblüfft, dass das nicht nur vollkommen ausreichend ist, sondern ich finde ihn so auch ausgesprochen gelungen (was mir nicht oft sagen kann).

Gemalt Im November 24

 I had already painted almost exactly the same view in the fall (see below) - unfortunately I missed painting it in the winter, which would have made a nice row.

As so often, the sun sank a little too quickly, but the time pressure once again helped me to stay loose. So I simplified the background with just a few rough brushstrokes in the underpainting, and I'm quite surprised myself that this is not only completely enough, but I also think it's really successful (which I don't often get to say).

Schilf am Schlangenweiher

Das ist das Schilf, das auf meinem Bild von letzter Woche am anderen Seeufer zu sehen war.

Schon öfter dachte ich bei meiner morgendlichen Laufrunde wie wunderschön die Püschel im Gegenlicht leuchten.. ich malte es dann etwas zu spät am Nachmittag: Samstags bei schönem Wetter gab es eine Menge Passanten mit ihren Gesprächen und Kommentaren, so dass es echt schwer war, fokussiert zu bleiben, während die Sonne leider viel zu schnell schnell verschwand.

Deshalb denke ich, dass ich das bald nochmals in Ruhe versuchen werde.

 

These are the reeds I painted a view days ago, this time I was on the other side of the pond.
On this sunny Saturday there were a lot of passer-by with their chats and comments, so it was really challenging to keep the focus, while the sun was disappearing quickly.
That’s why I think I will paint another approach to the reeds soon …

Treppe im Wald

 

An dieser wunderschön beleuchteten Treppe komm ich jeden Morgen vorbei, und heute habe ich sie gemalt - ganz schnell, denn die Lücke in den Bäumen, durch die die Sonne scheint ist nur klein und der Lichtzauber schnell wieder vorbei.

I pass these beautifully illuminated steps every morning, and today I painted them - very quickly, because the gap in the trees through which the sun shines is only small and the magic of the light is quickly over.

Bretagne – Blüten Contre Jour

Jeden Abend sah ich beim Heimkommen das schöne Licht auf den Blumen in der Uferkannte - und jetzt habe ich es endlich auch gemalt!

Es ist immer ein bisschen schade dass ich am Ende des Bildes, das späte warme Licht nicht mehr mit ins Bild bekomme, da ich sonst alles übermalen müsste und dieses Licht dann zu schnell weg ist, um es einzufangen.

Bildanfang

Every evening when I came home I saw the beautiful light on the flowers on the edge of the bank - and now I've finally painted it!

It's always a bit of a shame that I can't get the late warm light into the picture at the end, because otherwise I'd have to paint over everything and the light would be gone too quickly to capture it.

 

Hafen Rerik

 

Mit diesem Bild habe ich versucht das schöne Contre Jour Licht im Reriker Hafen am Abend einzufangen - und habe mich dabei ein bisschen verzettelt.

Mir persönlich gefällt das Bild nicht besonder (ich hatte was anderes im Sinn)s, aber wir hatten dort ein gute Zeit (mit vielen sehr netten Passanten), so ist es doch zumindest eine schöne Erinnerung :-)

With this painting I tried to capture the beautiful Contre Jour light in Rerik harbor in the evening - and got a bit lost.

I personally don't particularly like the result (I had something else in mind), but we had a good time there (with lots of very nice passers-by), so at least it's a nice memory :-)

Hochwasser im Ostpark

 

Überall im Land ist Hochwasser, zum Glück ist es hier in Frankfurt nicht sehr bedrohlich.

Ich habe versucht die tief stehende Wintersonne am Ostparkweiher einzufangen.

Ich fürchte bei diesem Motiv bin ich wieder mal ein bisschen zu frickelig geworden –  aber das Licht, das hab ich :-)

Malprozess

There are floods all over the country, luckily it's not very threatening here in Frankfurt.

I tried to capture the low winter sun at the Ostparkweiher.

I think I got a bit too fiddly with this motif - but I got the light :-)

Hertbstwald

 

Laut Wettervorhersage soll heute der letzte milde Herbstag sein, danach soll es deutlich kälter werden: Also nichts wie raus, zumal die Sonne sich auch noch blicken ließ, die dann auch mein Hauptmotiv wurde.

According to the weather forecast, today is supposed to be the last mild day of autumn, after which it will get much colder: So let's get out and about, especially as the sun was still shining and became my main subject.

Pleinair Artretreat Ardennen –Vresse sur Semois

Am 5. Tag sind wir nach Vresse-sur-Semois gefahren und haben dort am Fluss gemalt - mit sehr netten Besuchern :-)

Das Glitzern der Morgensonne auf dem Wasser habe ich als erstes schnell angelegt, da ich schon ahnte dass das weg ist, wenn die Sonne steigt. 

Am Schluss bat ich Blaise mir Model zu sitzen, damit das Bild nicht ganz so leer wird.

On day 5, we drove to Vresse-sur-Semois and painted by the river - with some very nice visitors :-)

The glistening morning sun on the water was the first thing I painted quickly, as I already suspected that it would be gone when the sun rose. 

At the end I asked Blaise to model for me so that the painting wouldn't be quite so empty.
