Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – Übersicht

 

Das sind alle Bilder, die ich in den 3,5 Tagen in Völklingen malte, als Übersicht.

Viel zu viele Motive blieben ungemalt – ganz bestimmt werde ich dort wieder malen, hoffentlich bald!

Ich hatte eine tolle Zeit mit den anderen - die 3 sind nicht nur besonders lustige Zeitgenossen, sondern noch dazu allesamt großartige Maler, die mich sehr inspirieren und von denen ich wieder mal ganz viel lernen konnte!

Ich hoffe wir bekommen es zeitnah hin, unseren gemeinsamen Blog mit Bildern zu bestücken, so dass dort dann alle Bilder (auch die der anderen) zu sehen sind.

This is an overview of all the paintings I did during the 3.5 days in Völklingen.

Far too many motifs remained unpainted - I will definitely paint there again, hopefully soon!

I had a great time with the others - the 3 of them are not only particularly funny contemporaries, but also all great painters who inspire me a lot and from whom I could learn a lot!

I hope we will soon be able to fill our joint blog with paintings, so that all the paintings (including those of the others) can be seen there.

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – Turbine

Und das ist leider schon das letzte Bild, das ich mit meinen Malfreunden auf dem diesjährigen Artretreat in der Völklinger Hütte gemalt habe.

Ich kämpfte ein bisschen mit der Perspektive des Daches, die habe dann zuhause noch korrigiert (und konnte mir nicht verkneifen noch ein paar Details zu ergänzen, obwohl das Bild mit Sicherheit keine Schrauben und Muttern gebraucht hätte )😜.

And this is unfortunately already the last painting I did with my painting friends at this year's Artretreat at the Völklingen Ironworks.

I struggled a bit with the perspective of the roof, which I then corrected at home (and couldn't resist adding a few details, although the painting certainly didn't need any nuts and bolts )😜.

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – Hochofen

Das letzte Bild des Tages malte ich dann wieder unter Zeitdruck: zum einen näherte sich das Ende der Öffnungszeit, zum anderen sank die Sonne dann doch schneller als gedacht.

Das Motiv wählte ich wegen der wunderschönen Sonnenflecken auf den Hochöfen, die den Rost zu richtig zum Glühen brachten... doch genau die veränderten sich so schnell, dass ich sie einfach nicht genau genug beobachten konnte, um sie richtig zu malen.

Deswegen habe ich an diesesBbild ausnahmsweise zu Hause noch mal Hand angelegt und die Sonnenflecken überarbeitet....

I painted the last painting of the day under time pressure again: on the one hand, the end of the opening time was approaching, on the other hand, the sun was sinking faster than expected.

I chose this motif because of the beautiful sun spots on the blast furnaces, which really made the rust glow... but they changed so quickly that I simply couldn't observe them closely enough to paint them properly.

That's why, for once, I worked on this painting again at home and reworked the sunspots....

 

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – Gichtbühne

Als wir aus der dunklen Halle rauskamen, schien die Sonne wieder... wir kletterten dann ganz nach oben auf die sogenannte Gichtbühne, von wo aus die Hochöfen gefüllt wurden.

Um die Dimensionen zu zeigen, habe ich hier ein paar Mensch ergänzt.

Einen ähnlichen Blich versuchte ich bereite vor 4,5 Jahren zu malen - und scheiterte damals noch an der Komplexität des Motivs.

Das malte ich 2018 - dazwischen liegen 540 Bilder :-)

When we came out of the dark hall, the sun was shining again... we then climbed to the top of the blast furnace platform, from where the ovens were filled.

To show the dimensions, I have added a few people here.

I tried to paint a similar view 4,5 years ago - and failed because of the complexity of the motif.

 

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – Sinterhalle

Der 2. Tag begrüßte uns mit Nebel, der aber leider schon zu weit oben war, um ein schönes Motiv abzugeben... Da es draußen so trüb war begannen wir den Tag im Dunkeln der Sinterhalle.

Es muss die Hölle gewesen sein, dort zu arbeiten... Ich muss aber zugeben, dass ich den Prozess der Eisenherstellung (vor allem das "Sintern") immer noch nicht kapiere, obwohl ich mir während des Malens immer wieder eine zehnminütige Multimediadokumentation anhören musste, die in einer Endlosschleife wiederholt wurde - ich habe sie dann etwa 10 Mal gehört

Ich zeige noch weitere Fotos der Halle: toll, wie stimmungsvoll dieser Arbeitsplatz erhalten und mit nur wenig Licht inszeniert wurde, um eine ungefähre Vorstellung davon zu bekommen, wie es dort früher einmal war.

The second day greeted us with fog, which was unfortunately already too high up to make a nice motif... As it was so gloomy outside, we started the day in the darkness of the sinter hall.

It must have been hell to work there.... But I have to admit that I still don't get the process of iron making (especially "sintering"), although while I was painting I had to listen to a ten-minute multimedia documentary repeated over and over in an endless loop - I ended up listening to it about 10 times

I show more photos of the hall: it's great how atmospherically this workplace has been preserved and staged with only a little light to get a rough idea of what it used to be like.

 

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – Rostkonstrukt

Für dieses Bild hatte ich dann nicht mehr so viel Zeit, da die Hütte schon um 19 Uhr zumacht ...  (und ich nicht wieder mal eingesperrt werden wollte!).

Aus diesem Grund, und weil ich vermeiden wollte, dass ich lauter Linien "zeichne", habe ich eine dunkel grundierte Malplatte gewählt und als Bildanfang nur den Himmel als Negativform gemalt.

Das war schon fast "Kunst" :-)

Bildanfang

I didn't have much time for this painting, because the hut closes at 7 pm ...  (and I didn't want to be locked in again!).

For this reason, and because I wanted to avoid "drawing" a lot of lines, I chose a dark primed painting board and painted only the sky as a negative shape as the beginning.

That was almost "art" :-)

 

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte – mehr Paradies

Diese Bild habe ich auch im Paradies gemalt...

ich habe gemeinsam mit Torsten gemalt... und wir waren sehr verblüfft über unsere komplett unterschiedlichen Bildanfänge: 

Ich zeige unten unsere Bilder, wie sie nach den ersten 5-10 Minuten aussahen. 

Ich habe tatsächlich alles gemalt, was Torsten nicht malte - und andersherum.

Ich habe beide Bilder mal digital übereinander gelegt: Voilà ! Das Bild ist fast fertig :-)

I also painted this painting in the so called paradise...

I painted together with Torsten... and we were very amazed at our completely different beginnings: 

I show our paintings as they looked after the first 5-10 minutes. 

I actually painted everything Torsten didn't paint - and vice versa.

I have digitally composed both paintings: Voilà ! The painting is almost finished :-)

Great collab, isn't it?

 

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte - Paradies

Gleich morgens, nachdem die Hütte geöffnet hat, sind wir ins "Paradies" gelaufen, so heißt der Teil, den sich die Natur langsam zurückerobert.

Das Motiv hat ein bisschen was von einem Tempel im Dschungel, wie Angkor Wat ... Total irre!

First thing in the morning, after the hut opened, we walked into "paradise", the name of the part that nature is slowly reclaiming.

The motif has a bit of a temple in the jungle, like Angkor Wat ... Totally crazy!

 

Artretreat Völklinger Hütte - Warm up

Nach all den Dünen- und Wellenbildern kommt nun was ganz anderes:

Mein diesjähriger Artretreat mit Torsten und Wolber und Alfons Kiefer war im UNESCO Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte im Saarland.

ich habe dort bereits 2017 und 2018 mit den Urbansketchern gemalt - und habe ich mich riesig gefreut, dort erneut "den Pinsel schwingen" zu dürfen!

Dieses mal wurden wir von Blaise Pillera begleitet, der ein super Bereicherung unserer kleinen Gruppe war!

Dieses Bild ist das "Warm Up", das ich direkt nach meiner Ankunft am Montag Nachmittag dort malte. 

After all the dune and wave paintings, here comes something completely different:

My art retreat this year with Torsten and Wolber and Alfons Kiefer was at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte in Saarland.

I already painted there with the Urbansketchers in 2017 and 2018 - and I was thrilled to be able to "swing the brush" there again!

This time we were accompanied by Blaise Pillera, who was a great addition to our little group!

This painting is the "warm up" I did right after arriving there on Monday afternoon.
