Kleines Eppental im Schnee

 

Ich habe es mir sehnlichst gewünscht – und wurde erhört:

Auf der Zielgeraden des Winters fiel über Nacht endlich Schnee im Eppental. Als ich wach wurde war der Schnee schon fast wieder weggetaut, ich bin deshalb noch vor dem Kaffee los und habe den tauenden Schnee im Regen gemalt.

Und damit habe ich ich meine 4 Jahreszeiten Serie des kleinen Eppentals komplett!

Mission competed!

I wished for it so much – and my wish was granted:

As winter drew to a close, snow finally fell overnight in Eppental. When I woke up, the snow had almost melted away, so I set off before I'd even had my coffee and painted the melting snow in the rain.

And with that, my series of the four seasons in little Eppental is complete!

Schnee im Günthersburgpark

In der Pfalz habe ich den Schnee leider immer verpaßt- dort hat es einfach nie geschneit, wenn ich dort war... Aber jetzt, wo ich mal kurz in Frankfurt bin hatte ich endlich doch noch die Gelegenheit im Günthersburgpark ein richtiges Schnee-Winterbild zu malen... und das sogar mit Sonne (und den wunderschönen blauen Schatten!).

 Unfortunately, I always missed the snow in the Palatinate Forest—it simply never snowed when I was there... But now that I'm in Frankfurt for a short while, I finally had the opportunity to paint a real snowy winter scene in Günthersburgpark... and even with sunshine (and beautiful blue shadows!).

Als ich sah, dass heute die Sonne schien, hatte ich auf ein bisschen wärmere Temperaturen beim Schneemalen gehofft... leider stand ich oben auf den Feldern ungeschützt im schneidenden Wind...

Ich hab mich dann sehr beeilt, es trotzdem nicht geschafft fertig zu werden, bevor die Sonne verschwand.

Brrrrr...

 

Schrebergarten im Schnee

Und es sind sogar noch ein paar Millimeter Schnee dazu gekommen!

Noch immer schniefend und hustend bin ich in die Schrebergärten gezogen und hab diesen wunderschönen Holzstapel gefunden. Der Schnee hat für klare Kontraste gesorgt und somit das Durcheinander gut strukturiert, dass es einfacher zu malen war als ohne Schnee.

Gemalt hab ich dieses Bild auf einer alten Malplatte: Upcycling :-)

 

And there was even a few millimeters of snow on top of that: so rare down here in Frankfurt!

Still sniffling and coughing, I went to the allotment gardens and found this beautiful pile of wood. The snow provided clear contrasts and thus structured the mess well, making it easier to paint than without snow.

I painted this painting on an old painting panel: upcycling :-)

Sonne und Schnee in Frankfurt!

 

Nachdem ich 2 Wochen mit einer fiesen Erkältung flach lag, bin ich endlich wieder zurück in meinem Atelier: in Frankfurt liegt ein bisschen Schnee und es scheint sogar die Sonne.

Ach wenn es wahrscheinlich einigermaßen dämlich ist mich in die die Käte zu stellen, konnte ich einfach nicht widerstehen und hab diese wunderschön blauen Schatten gemalt.

Ein guter Start ins neue Mal-Jahr, wie ich finde!

After being laid low with a nasty cold for two weeks, I'm finally back in my studio: there's a little snow in Frankfurt and the sun is even shining.

Even though it's probably a bit foolish to put myself out in the cold, I just couldn't resist and painted these beautiful blue shadows.

A good start to the new painting year, I think!

Winterwald

 

Obwohl ich heute extra früh aufgestanden und gleich raus bin, kam ich fast zu spät: Der Schnee schmolz schnell durch den einsetzenden Regen, während ich malte.

Aber ich bin froh, dass ich zumindest ein bisschen von dem Weiß erwischt habe ...

Das ist fast der gleiche Blick wie auf meinem letzten Bild.

 Although I was an early bird today, I was almost too late: the snow was quickly melting by the onset of the rain while I was painting.

But I‘m happy to caught a little bit of the white …

Nearly the same view as in my last painting.

Baum mit Schneeresten

  

Das ist das 2 Bild von meinem Ausflug in den Taunus:

es gibt ganz manchmal so Tage, das fließt einem alles aus der Hand – da ist dann das totale Male-Glück 😊

Und dieser Tag da oben war definitiv so ein Tag: totaaaal schön!

Auch dieses Bild ging richtig flott zu malen, ich habe nur etwas über 2 Stunden dran gemalt.

Auf die Schatten dann die weißen sonnenbeschienen Schneeflecken zu malen ist total befriedigend:

Sometimes there are days when everything just flows out of your hand - that's when you're totally happy to paint 😊

And this day up there was definitely one of those days: totally beautiful!

This painting also went really quickly, I only painted it for a little over 2 hours.

Schneereste

Ha! 

Ich habe doch noch mal Schnee gemalt: jetzt sind im Taunus aber wirklich nur noch wenige Schneereste.

Das Bild ging total schnell, selbst für meine Verhältnisse: Ich habe auf einer dunkelgrün grundierten Malplatte angefangen und dadurch nur 35 Minuten gebraucht um dieses Bild zu malen. 

Ich glaube das war bis jetzt mein Rekord :-)

Deswegen habe ich gleich im Anschluß noch ein 2. Bild gemalt (s. nächster BlogPost)

I have painted snow again: but now there are really only a few remnants of snow in the Taunus.

The painting went really fast, even by my standards: I started on a dark green primed painting board and thus needed only 35 minutes to paint this painting. 

I think that was my record so far :-)

That's why I painted a second painting right after the first one (see next blog post).

Das letzte Schneebild der Saison?

Während ich in der Bretagne war schneite es hier noch mal so richtig – und im Taunus ist der Schnee bis jetzt liegen geblieben, zumindest ganz oben auf dem Feldberg.

Da habe ich ihn schnell noch mal gemalt.... das war dann aber wahrscheinlich das letzte Schneebild der Saison :-)

While I was in Brittany, it really snowed here again - and in the Taunus, the snow has remained until now, at least at the top of the Feldberg.

So I quickly painted it again.... but that was probably the last snow painting of the season :-)

Noch mehr Schnee

Heute sind wir gleich wieder hoch in den Taunus gefahren, solange dort noch so ein wunderschönes Winterwunderland ist: Dieses mal haben wir auf dem Feldberg gemalt. Die eisigen Temperaturen haben für besonders schöne Schnee-Baum-Skulpturen gesorgt, die dann aber ein bisschen kniffelig zu malen waren.

Außerdem wanderte die Sonne sehr schnell...

Trotzdem war es super toll dort zu malen, das war wirklich das schönste Atelier der Welt!

Today we went up to the Taunus again, while there is still such a beautiful winter wonderland there: this time we painted on the Feldberg. The icy temperatures made for particularly beautiful snow tree sculptures, which were then a bit tricky to paint.

Besides, the sun moved very quickly...

Nevertheless, it was super great to paint there, it really was the most beautiful studio in the world!

Verschneite Bäume

Heute schien dann sogar die Sonne - was zwar viel freundlicher aussieht, aber sich tatsächlich um einige kälter anfühlte.

Dieser Frost hat ein ganz besonders schönes Winterwunderland gezaubert... prompt wurde mein Bild ein bisschen kitschig, da ich es mit den Farbe ein bisschen übertrieben habe (sie waren zwar alle da, aber nicht ganz so gesättigt und deutlich, wie ich's dann gemalt habe).

Ausnahmsweise zeige ich hier noch Fotos der Landschaft, weil es einfach zu und zu schön aussah!

Then today even the sun shone - which looks much friendlier, but actually felt a few colder.

This frost has conjured up a particularly beautiful winter wonderland.... promptly, my bid painting got a bit cheesy, as I overdid it a bit with the colour (they were all there, but not quite as saturated and clear as I ended up painting).

For once, I'm still showing photos of the landscape here, because it just looked too and too beautiful!

Schnee und Nebel

Und weil's so schön war, bin ich heute gleich wieder in den Taunus zum Schnee-Malen – diesmal war es noch ein bisschen ungemütlicher/feuchter, weil zum Nebel auch noch noch Schneefall dazu kam (der mein Motiv immer wieder veränderte, zum Teil sah ich die Bäume gar nicht mehr und auch der Weg verschwand nach und nach immer mehr).

Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich den Schirm dabei hatte!

And because it was so nice, I went back to the Taunus today to paint in the snow - this time it was a bit more uncomfortable/wet, because in addition to the fog, there was also snowfall (which kept changing my motif, sometimes I couldn't even see the trees any more and the path gradually disappeared).

I am very glad that I had the umbrella with me!

Nebel im Schnee

Dieses mal schien im Tal die Sonne und ich malte oben im Nebel...

Ich fand diese Abwesenheit von Farbe sehr schön zu malen - ein tolle Übung um sich mal nur auf die Tonwerte zu konzentrieren.

Diese Konzentration war dann auch der Grund, warum ich es erst gar nicht registrierte, dass es anfing zu schneien... bis ich an einen Punkt kam, an dem ich dann doch zugeben musste, dass ich definitiv nicht mehr weiter malen kann :-)

This time the sun was shining in the valley and I painted above in the fog....

I found this absence of color very nice to paint - a great exercise to concentrate only on the tonal values.

This concentration was also the reason why I didn't even notice that it started to snow... until I came to a point where I had to admit that I definitely have to stop painting :-)

Über den Wolken

Seit Tagen ist es grau und trist in Frankfurt - und dann sehe ich auf der Webcam, dass ganz oben im Taunus die Sonne scheint! Nichts wie raus!!

Tatsächlich war es dann ein Frage von wenigen Metern, die Wolkendecke schob sich immer mal wieder so weit nach oben, dass ich zum Teil im Nebel malte...

Toll so von oben auf die Wolken gucken zu können!

It's been grey and dreary in Frankfurt for days - and then I see on the webcam that the sun is shining all the way up in the Taunus! Let's get out of here!

In fact, it was a matter of a few metres, the cloud cover pushed up so far that I was partly painting in the fog...

It was great to be able to look at the clouds from above!

… und noch ein Bach im Schnee

 

Das ist der gleiche Bach den ich gestern malte, sogar die gleiche Stelle, nur dass ich dieses Mal die Blickrichtung gewechselt habe…

Da mir die beiden letzen Bilder zu weich gemacht waren, wollte ich dieses  mal bewusst grobere Pinselstriche setzen. Es ist aber schwierig das Weiche des Schnees ohne das Ineinandermalen hinzubekommen… ich glaube, ich müsste den Kontrast der Farben zueinander noch weiter reduzieren.

Aber Spaß hat es auch heute wieder gemacht - dieses Mal hat mich mein Mann auch dabei gefilmt, hier könnt ihr ein Video sehen, das zeigt wie wunderschön es dort war.

This is the same creek I painted yesterday, even the same place, only this time I changed the direction of my view...

Since both last paintings were too soft for me, I wanted to deliberately use rougher brush strokes this time. But it is difficult to get the softness of the snow without painting into each other... I think I would have to reduce the contrast of the colours to each other even more.

But it was fun again today - this time my husband also filmed me doing it, here you can see a video that shows how beautiful it was there.

Ein weiterer Bach im Schnee

Solange dort oben in Taunus Schnee liegt (und noch dazu die Sonne so schön scheint) muss ich dir Gelegenheit nutzen und ihn auch malen:-)

Diese Stelle war ziemlich schwierig zu erreichen, der Schnee war tiefer als gedacht und erschwerte das Laufen schon sehr: aber das Stapfen hat sich gelohnt! So ein wunderschöner Platz!

As long as there is snow up there in Taunus (and the sun is shining so beautifully) I have to take the opportunity and paint it too :-)

This place was quite difficult to reach, the snow was deeper than expected and made walking very difficult: but the trudging was worth it! Such a beautiful place!
