Frühlingsweg

 Mittlerweile isses so richtig Frühling - es ist war, es grünt und blüht...

Dieses Bild habe ich früh morgens in den Feldern gemalt, die Schatten wanderten extrem schnell. Ich bin froh diesen Winkel der Schatten erwischt zu haben, dass sie den Betrachter direkt ins Bild leiten.

It's really spring now - it's warm, green and blooming...

I painted this scene early in the morning in the fields, the shadows were moving extremely fast. I'm glad I caught this angle of the shadows so that they lead the viewer directly into the painting.

Eppental im Frühling

Fast genau den gleichen Blick hatte ich schon mal im Herbst gemalt (s.unten) – leider hab  ich`s verbummelt ihn auch im Winter zu malen, das hätte eine schöne Reihe ergeben.

Wie so oft sank die Sonne etwas zu schnell, aber der Zeitdruck half mir wieder einmal sehr dabei, schön locker zu bleiben. So habe ich den Hintergrund ganz vereinfacht mit nur ein paar groben Pinselstrichen in der Untermalung angelegt, und bin selbst ganz verblüfft, dass das nicht nur vollkommen ausreichend ist, sondern ich finde ihn so auch ausgesprochen gelungen (was mir nicht oft sagen kann).

Gemalt Im November 24

 I had already painted almost exactly the same view in the fall (see below) - unfortunately I missed painting it in the winter, which would have made a nice row.

As so often, the sun sank a little too quickly, but the time pressure once again helped me to stay loose. So I simplified the background with just a few rough brushstrokes in the underpainting, and I'm quite surprised myself that this is not only completely enough, but I also think it's really successful (which I don't often get to say).

Mandelblüte bei Bad Dürkheim

Und endlich blühen auch die Mandelbäume an der Weinstraße. Die Pfälzer Mandelblüte ist wohl sehr bekannt (ich wusste davon bisher nix). Tatsächlich ist es wunderschön diese Blüten-Alleen zu sehen – aber leider sind die meisten direkt an der sehr befahrenen Bundesstraße, so daß das Bild nun viel idyllischer aussieht als dort wirklich war.

Nachdem ich beim Malen bemerkte wie viele Passanten die Blüten fotografierten habe ich beschlossen einen davon mit ins Bild zu malen.

Dadurch bekommt das Bild irgendwie was illustratives, man kann wohl nicht verleugnen, daß ich auch Kinderbuch-Illustratorin bin :-)

And finally the almond trees on the Weinstrasse are in bloom. The Palatinate almond blossom is well known (I didn't know about it before). It is indeed wonderful to see these flowering avenues - but unfortunately most of them are right next to the very busy road, so that the painting now looks much more idyllic than it really was.

After noticing how many passers-by were taking photos of the flowers while I was painting, I decided to include one of them in the scene.

This somehow gives the picture an illustrative quality, you can't deny that I'm also a children's book illustrator :-)

 

Frühlingsgarten

Mittlerweile blühen schon richtig viele Sträucher und Büsche. Diesen fand ich in einem kleine Schrebergarten zwischen den Weinbergen am Pfälzer Wald bei Bad Dürkheim.

Das war ein ganz besonders schöner und friedlicher Platz um den milden Frühlingstag zu verbringen.

Meanwhile, lots of shrubs and bushes are already in bloom. I found this one in a small allotment between the vineyards in the Palatinate Forest near Bad Dürkheim.

It was a particularly beautiful and peaceful place to spend this mild spring day.

 

Wald im Abendlicht

Diese schräge Streiflicht am späten Nachmittag am Hang habe ich schon oft beobachtet – und heute endlich mal gemalt. Die Sonne sinkt wirklich (noch) sehr früh, und vor allem viel zu schnell...

 I have often observed this diagonal strip light on the hillside in the late afternoon - and finally painted it today. The sun is really (still) setting very early, and above all much too quickly...

Blick zum Pfälzerwald

An einem der ersten richtig warmen Frühlingstagen habe ich diesen Blick vom Bad Dürkheimer Flaggenturm  zum Pfälzerwald gemalt.

Eigentlich wollte ich nur den ersten blühen Busch, den ich gefunden habe malen, aber dann gefiel mir dieses diesige, wie der Dunst zwischen den Hügeln hing so gut, dass der Blütenbusch nur noch zur Nebensache wurde.

 On one of the first really warm days of spring, I painted this view from the Bad Dürkheim flag tower to the Palatinate Forest.

Actually, I only wanted to paint the first blooming bush that I found, but then I liked this mist hanging between the hills so much that the bush became a sideshow.

Schneeglöckchen

Mit diesem Bild erkläre ich offiziell die Frühlings-Malsaison für eröffnet!

Um die Blümchen besser einfangen zu können, musste ich für dieses Bild schon fast auf dem Boden kauern – obwohl ich nur knapp über 1 Stunde malte, tat mir danach alles weh ....

 

With this painting I officially declare the spring painting season open!

To capture the flowers better, I almost had to kneel on the floor for this painting - although I only painted for just over an hour, everything was aching afterwards ....

Herzogweiher

  

Bei diesem Bild hatte ich was ganz anderes vor:

ich wollte die Berge und das Wasser in großen Flächen anlegen - und die Häuser nur mit ein paar Farbstipsen.

Das ist mir nicht gelungen - deshalb werde ich das wohl noch mal versuchen müssen...

I had something completely different in mind for this painting:

I wanted to paint the mountains and the water in large shapes - and the houses with just a few dots of color.

I didn't succeed - so I'll probably have to try again...

Schlangenweiher in der Wintersonne

Offiziell ist Frühlingsanfang, sehen tut man ihn aber noch nicht: keine Blüten, noch keine bisschen grün, wenn überhaupt sieht man einen Hauch Farbe von den rötlichen Knospen.Aber fühlen tut man ihn schon, wenn man so schön in der Sonne malt.

Für alle, die interessiert sind, wie ich die Spiegelung gemalt habe:

Ich habe die erste Untermalung flächig mit einem Verlauf vom dunklen ins helle Grün angelegt.Den Himmel, sowie das Licht hinter den Bäumen setzte ich dann als negative Form obendrauf: übrig bleibt die Spiegelung der Bäume.

Für mich ist das eine gute Methode um den Blich sowohl ins als auch auf das Wasser darstellen.

It's officially the beginning of spring, but you can't see it yet: no flowers, not a bit of green, if anything you can see a hint of color from the reddish buds, but you can feel it when you paint so beautifully in the sun.

For anyone who is interested in how I painted the reflection:

I created the first underpainting with a gradient from dark to light green and then added the sky and the light behind the trees as a negative form on top: what remains is the reflection of the trees.

For me, this is a good way to show the view both into and onto the water. 

Kiefernwald im letzten Sonnenlicht

Diesen Blick in den Kiefernwald wollte ich schon immer malen: der Verlauf in den Baumstämmen der Kiefern von kühlem Violett ins warme Orange hat mich schon immer fasziniert.

Den kann man sogar erkennen, ohne dass die Sonne drauf scheint, das Sonnenlicht verstärkt den Effekt aber natürlich noch mehr.

I've always wanted to paint this view of the pine forest: the gradient in the trunks of the pine trees from cool purple to warm orange has always fascinated me.

You can even see it without the sun shining on it, but of course the sunlight enhances the effect even more.

Wintersonne im Pfälzer Wald

Dieses Bild malte ich bei fast schon frühlinglichen Temperaturen am Hang hinter unserem Haus.

Ich wollte nur ein bisschen von der Sonne erwischen, die bei uns unten schon weg war und malte dann einfach was ich von dort aus sehen konnte.

Wieder mal habe ich sie einiges meines schönen Bildanfangs nicht erkannt und übermalt, den richtigen Zeitpunkt verpasst aufzuhören. Dafür hatte ich es aber richtig schön dort oben auf einem Baumstamm sitzen (zu Stehen ist der Hang zu steil).

Bildanfang

I painted this one on the slope behind our house in almost spring-like temperatures.

I just wanted to catch a bit of the sun, which was already gone down below, so I just painted what I could see from there.

Once again, I didn't recognize some parts of the beautiful start of my painting and painted over it, missing the right moment to stop. But I had a really nice time sitting up there on a tree trunk (the slope is too steep to stand on).

 

Haus am See im großen Eppental

 

Dieses kleine Häuschen steht im großen Eppental.

Eigentlich wollte ich nur die schöne Contre Jour Lichtstimmung dieses sonnigen Wintertags im Wald malen, aber während des Malens hab ich mich geradezu in verknallt in das Häuschen und immer mehr Details hinzugefügt – auch die Spiegelung wurde immer interessanter für mich.

So ist jetzt was ganz anderes, als ich wollte, bei dem Bild herausgekommen - aber das ist ja da Schöne beim Malen: man weiß wenn man anfängt nie, was am Ende bei rauskommt.

This little house stands in the Großen Eppental.

Actually, I only wanted to paint the beautiful contre jour light mood of this sunny winter day in the forest, but while I was painting I fell in love with the little house and added more and more details - the reflection also became more and more interesting to me.

The result is something completely different from what I wanted - but that's the joy of painting: when you start, you never know what you'll end up with.

Wintersonne im Morgennebel

 

Heute Morgen war hier im Wald eine ganz besonders schöne Atmosphäre: die Sonne kämpfte sich durch den Nebel ... den sie dann bei Steigen leider immer mehr auflöste.

This morning in the forest was particularly atmospheric - I had to hurry, because the fog quickly disappeared with the rising sun.

Wähl Liebe Demo auf dem Römer am 15.2.25

2 Wochen vor der Bundestagswahl 2025 fand auf dem Frankfurter Römerberg die vom CSD initiierte Demo für Vielfalt und Demokratie unter der Überschrift WÄHL LIEBE statt.

All diese Menschen zu sehen, die bei den eisigen Temperaturen auf die Straße gehen um unsere Demokratischen Werte zu verteidigen macht mir ein bisschen Hoffnung, dass die Wahl am 23.2. doch nicht ganz so schlimm ausfällt, wie es mich die vielen schlechten Nachrichten befürchten lassen.

Mein Dank gilt den großartigen Menschen vom historischen Museum, die es mir ermöglicht haben dort den Blick aus dem Erkerfenster malen zu dürfen.

Und auch Kamü, die mir mit quietschenden Copicmarkern  Gesellschaft leistete.

Von ihr stammt die Idee die Regenbogenfarben mit einem einzigen mehrfarbigen Strich zu malen: cool, oder? Ihr Bild seht ihr unten.

Etwas weiter entfernt malte Sibylle ihren Blick auf das Geschehen. Sie hat eine großen Beitrag dazu geleistet, dass ich mich überhaupt getraut habe die Demo zu malen. Ihr Bild seht ihr auch unten.

Erker im historischen Museum

2 weeks before the Bundestag election 2025, the demo for diversity and democracy initiated by the CSD took place on Frankfurt's Römerberg under the heading VOTE LOVE.

Seeing all these people taking to the streets in the freezing temperatures to defend our democratic values gives me a little hope that the election on February 23rd won't be as bad as I feared from all the bad news.

My thanks go to the great people at the historical museum who made it possible for me to paint the view from the bay window there.

And also Kamü, who kept me company with her squeaky copic markers.

She came up with the idea of painting the rainbow colors with a single multicolored stroke: cool, right? You can see her picture below.

A little further away, Sibylle painted her view of the action. She made a big contribution to me daring to paint the demo in the first place. You can also see her picture below. 

 

Fichten im Nebel

 

Das ist von den Motiven, die ich schon oft und lang betrachtet habe und dabei immer dachte, das sollte ich mal malen... und heute habe ich es endlich getan. Fast immer, wenn ich solche Bilder dann endlich mal, fließen die mir geradezu aus dem Pinsel - was wohl daran liegt, dass ich sie beim Betrachten im Geiste schon gemalt hatte, und das nun nur noch reproduzieren muss.

Ich liebe es Nebel zu malen: nicht nur wegen der schönen Atmosphäre, sondern es ist auch eine ganz besonders gut Übung Tonwerte zu beurteilen.

Außerdem geht es meisten recht schnell: der Nebel ist ein Meister darin Motive zu vereinfachen.

This is one of the motifs that I've looked at many times and for a long time, always thinking that I should paint it... and today I finally did it. Almost always, when I finally paint such pictures, they just flow out of my brush - which is probably because I had already painted them in my mind when I looked at them and now I just have to recreate them.

I love painting fog: not only because of the beautiful atmosphere, but it's also a particularly good exercise to judge tonal values.

Besides, it is usually quite quick: the fog is a master at simplifying motifs.

Holzschuppen

Damit war ich in der letzten Woche beschäftigt:

Ich habe 2 Kubikmeter Holz 88 Stufen hochgeschleppt und gestapelt (die Treppe hatte ich im Herbst mal gemalt, s.unten)

Nur eine Verrückte würde das Ganze hinterher auch noch malen, oder?

Aber ich fand die Vielfarbigkeit des Holzes in der Dämmerung  so wunderschön, dass ich 's einfach malen musste. Ich hänge das Foto von der Dämmerung, auch mit an, da es beim Abschlußfoto schon zu dunkel war um das zu erkennen.

Außerdem zeige ich auch den Ausschnitt: Das ist der Teil, der mir gefällt, der Teil drum herum wäre nicht nötig gewesen.

Farben in der Dämmerung

die laaaange Treppe

That's what I was busy with last week:

I dragged 2 cubic metres of wood up 88 steps and stacked them (I painted the stairs in autumn, see below)

Only a weirdo would paint the whole thing afterwards, right?

But I found the multi-coloured wood in the twilight so beautiful that I just had to paint it. I'm also attaching the photo of the twilight, as it was already too dark to recognise it in the final photo.

I'm also showing the cropped painting: this is the part I like, the part around it wouldn't have been necessary.

Schilf am Schlangenweiher

Das ist das Schilf, das auf meinem Bild von letzter Woche am anderen Seeufer zu sehen war.

Schon öfter dachte ich bei meiner morgendlichen Laufrunde wie wunderschön die Püschel im Gegenlicht leuchten.. ich malte es dann etwas zu spät am Nachmittag: Samstags bei schönem Wetter gab es eine Menge Passanten mit ihren Gesprächen und Kommentaren, so dass es echt schwer war, fokussiert zu bleiben, während die Sonne leider viel zu schnell schnell verschwand.

Deshalb denke ich, dass ich das bald nochmals in Ruhe versuchen werde.

 

These are the reeds I painted a view days ago, this time I was on the other side of the pond.
On this sunny Saturday there were a lot of passer-by with their chats and comments, so it was really challenging to keep the focus, while the sun was disappearing quickly.
That’s why I think I will paint another approach to the reeds soon …

Baum in der Wintersonne

Auf der Suche nach einem Motiv bliebe mein Blick an diesem Baum hängen: vor allem das Muster der beleuchteten und schattigen Äste fand ich spannend.

Ein bisschen habe ich jedoch das Gefühl diesem wunderschönen Motiv nicht ganz gerecht geworden zu sein.

In my search for a motif, my gaze lingered on this tree: I found the pattern of the illuminated and shaded branches particularly fascinating.

However, I have the feeling that I haven't quite done justice to this beautiful motif.
