Dieses Bild habe ich vor Ort nicht fertig bekommen: ich hatte total Mühe mit den Tonwerten!
Vor allem die Dünen vor dem Himmel bereiteten mir Schwierigkeiten: das Auge sah sie relativ hell, wenn ich sie aber so gemalt habe, war das Bild kaum lesbar. Ich habe dann so lange an diesen Hell-Dunkel-Kontrasten rumgemacht, dass die Sonne immer tiefer rutschte und immer goldener wurde.. so hätte ich nur dem Licht hinterher gemalt.
Ich habe dann am nächsten Tag zuhause probiert, ob dunkle Dünen das Motiv besser erklären (was sie, wie ich finde, tun) und dann noch die Boote ergänzt, ohne die wurde nämlich irgendwie auch nicht klar, dass das unten Wasser ist.
Insgesamt ein ziemlicher Kampf, dessen nicht besonders gutes Ergebnis ich euch aber nicht vorenthalten wollte.

This painting I did not get ready on site: I had total trouble with the tonal values!
Especially the dunes in front of the sky gave me trouble: the eye saw them relatively bright, but when I painted them that way, the painting was barely legible. I then messed around with these light-dark contrasts for so long that the sun slipped lower and lower and became more and more golden... so I would have just painted chasing the light.
I then tried the next day at home, whether dark dunes explain the motif better (which I think they do) and then added the boats, without which it was somehow also not clear that the bottom is water.
Overall, quite a struggle, whose not particularly good result, but I did not want to withhold from you.
