Bretagne – Ebbe Priele

Dieses Bild habe ich morgens in "unserer" Bucht bei Ebbe gemalt – und die Flut hätte ich beinahe überrascht: ich merkte wirklich erst, dass das Wasser kommt, als es bereits um meine Gummistiefel schwappte.

Ich musste das Bild dann auf dem trockenen fertig malen – und hatte dadurch nur noch den Strand und Haus vor mir, alle Priele und Felsen waren hinter mir und überschwemmt.

Die Gezeiten machen es einem echt nicht gerade leichter!

I painted this one in ‘our’ bay at low tide in the morning – and the tide almost caught me by surprise: I only really noticed the water coming in when it was already lapping around my wellies.

I then had to finish the painting on dry land – which meant I only had the beach and house in front of me, with all the tidal pools and rocks behind me and flooded.

The tides really don't make it any easier!

 

Bretagne – Abendlicht

 

 

Den (endlich!) fast sonnigen Tag habe ich genutzt und abends noch dieses Contre Jour Bild gemalt:

Danach habe ich überall tanzende Pünktchen gesehen 😎

I took advantage of the (finally!) almost sunny day and painted this Contre Jour painting in the evening.

Afterwards I saw dancing dots everywhere 😎

Bretagne – Morgenlicht

Als ich dieses Bild malte, haute mein Motiv viel zu schnell ab. 

Zum Glück blieb der Sand noch lange genug nass, dass ich zumindest die Spiegelung noch sah….

When I was painting this one, my subject took off far too quickly. 

Fortunately, the sand stayed wet long enough for me to at least see the reflection....

Bretagne – Felsen in der Ebbe

Die kurze Regenpause heute habe ich zum Malen genutzt:

Das Bild habe ich glaub dreimal gemalt: ich musste ständig die Tonwerte anpassen, das Licht hat sich minütlich geändert. Mal war das Meer heller, mal dunkler als der Himmel, die Felsen waren erst nur eine Silhouette, plötzlich hell, dann wieder dunkel.

Auch den Sand musste ich deutlich dunkler übermalen, da ssich onst die kleinen Priele, deren Wasser das helle Sonnenlicht reflektierten, nicht deutlich genug abhoben ...

Dieses mal eine sehr ineffiziente Malweise :-)

Vorab hatte ich eine ganz schnelle kleine Ölskizze gemalt, da war alles noch ganz simpel.

 

I used the short break in the rain today to paint:

I think I painted this piece three times: I had to constantly adjust the tonal values, the light changed by the minute. Sometimes the sea was lighter, sometimes darker than the sky, the rocks were just a silhouette at first, then suddenly bright, then dark again.

I also had to paint over the sand much darker, as the small tideways, whose water reflected the bright sunlight, did not stand out clearly enough ...

A very inefficient painting method this time :-)

I had painted a quick little oil sketch beforehand, so everything was still quite simple.

Bretagne – Plage des Amiets im Regen

 

Ich bin wieder in der Bretagne!

Sie begrüßte mich mit ganz wunderschönen Grautönen... (und wieder mal Wind und Wind und Wind, was die Motivwahl sehr einschränkt, da ich nur malen kann, was vom aus dem Lee der Felsen zu sehen ist).

ich bin mal gespannt, was für Bilder mir in den nächsten 2 Wochen so passieren werden – denn ich weiß das vorher auch nie :-)

I'm back in Brittany!

It greeted me with beautiful shades of gray... (and once again wind and wind and wind, which limits the choice of motifs, as I can only paint what can be seen from the lee of the rocks).

I'm curious to see what kind of paintings will happen to me in the next 2 weeks - because I never know beforehand :-)

Waldsee

 

Während ich dieses Bild malte, wanderten die Sonnenflecken im Schatten der Bäume über die Wasseroberfläche: dieses Leuchten auf dem Wasser wollte ich einfangen.

Dieser Fokus auf das Wasser half mir dann auch sehr, beim Wald im Hintergrund schön roeugh und unspezifisch zu bleiben.

While I was painting this scene, the sunspots were moving across the surface of the water in the shadows of the trees: I wanted to capture this glow on the water.

This focus on the water also helped me a lot to keep the forest in the background rough and unspecific.

Pleinairmalerei Workshop auf der Klosterruine Limburg Tag 2

Diese Bilder sind dann beim 2. Tag des Pleinairmalerei  Workshops entstanden.

Vorab malten wir eine kleine Ölskizze – so legen wir unser Motiv kennen, testen die Kompostion und vor allem zwingt das kleine Format zu Vereinfachung.

Anders als beim Demobild des ersten Tages, hat meine Schülerin ihr Bild viel selbständiger gemalt – mein Bild ist dann vor allem dafür da, ihr auf meiner Leinwand zu erklären und zu zeigen, was sie auf ihrem Bild gebrauchen kann - ohne dabei in ihrem Bild rumzuhaben :-)

Es war eine sehr schöne Zeit, die wir dort oben auf dem Berg zusammen hatten – und das Gefühl, jemandem auf seiner Reise in die Pleinairmalerei unterstützen zu können, ist immer wieder großartig!

Das 2. Pleinair-Ölbild was meine Schülerin je gemalt hat

These paintings were created on the 2nd day of the plein air painting workshop.

We painted a small oil sketch beforehand - this way we get to know our motif, test the composition and, above all, the small format forces us to simplify.

Unlike the demo painting on the first day, my student painted her painting much more independently - my painting is then mainly there to explain and show her what she can use on my canvas - without having to mess around in her painting :-)

It was a very nice time we had together up there on the mountain - and the feeling of being able to support someone on their journey into plein air painting is always great!

 

Pleinairmalerei Workshop auf der Klosterruine Limburg Tag 1

Das ist mein erstes Demobild eines privaten 2 tägigen Workshops, den ich auf der Klosterruine Limburg gegeben habe.

Vorab habe ich meiner Schülerin ein praktische Tipps für den Farbauftrag in der AllaPrima Malweise gezeigt, und im Anschluss (nach eine Gewitterbdingten Kaffeepause) habe wir dann zusammen diese Bäume gemalt.

Das erste PleinairÖlbild überhaupt meiner Schülerin!

This is my first demo painting from a private 2-day workshop that I gave at the Limburg monastery ruins.

Beforehand I showed my student some practical tips for applying paint in the AllaPrima painting technique, and afterwards (after a coffee break due to a thunderstorm) we painted these trees together.
