Picknick im Grünen

 

Diesen wunderschönen warmen Frühlingssonntag verbrachte ich bei einem Picknick mit Peter weit ausserhalb von Frankfurt in den Feldern… so sind wir den vielen Menschen entkommen, die alle auf einmal nach draußen pilgerten.

Die kleinen gelben Blumen habe ich das erste mal gesehen: sie heißen „zottiger Klappertopf“ - ein verrückter Name!

I spent this beautiful warm spring Sunday at a picnic with Peter far outside Frankfurt in the fields... so we escaped the many people who all at once made a pilgrimage outside.

I saw the small yellow flowers for the first time: they are called "shaggy rattle pot" - a crazy name!

Kastanineblütenteppich

Ich habe ein Bild an eine Käuferin in der Nachbarschaft ausgeliefert und entdeckte dabei vor ihrem Haus dieses wunderschöne Motiv:

Die herabgefallenen Kastanienblüten bildeten einen total flauschigen Teppich!

Damit die Sonnenflecken auf dem Boden schön leuchten, habe ich die Kontraste und Sättigung ziemlich gepushed - in "echt" war der Boden heller und auch etwas neutraler in der Farbe.

Jetzt im Nachhinein erkenne ich, dass ich dann auch das Laub der Bäume noch um einiges dunkler hätte anlegen müssen... so hätten die Sonnenflecken noch mehr rausgeleuchtet!

Erinnerung an mich selbst:

In Zukunft mehr auf die Tonwertrelationen innerhalb des Bildes achten!

So oder so: ich hatte viel Spaß dabei die Farbe dort fett mit dem Spachtel aufzutragen.

Mein Hommage an Max Liebermann, den Meister der gemalten Sonnenflecken unter Kastanien!

I was delivering a painting to a buyer in the neighbourhood and discovered this beautiful motif in front of her house:

The fallen chestnut blossoms formed a totally fluffy carpet!

To make the dappled light on the floor shine nicely, I pushed the contrasts and saturation quite a bit - in "real" the floor was brighter and also a bit more neutral in colour.

Now, in retrospect, I realise that I should have made the foliage of the trees even darker... so the sun spots would have shone out even more!

Reminder to myself:

In future, pay more attention to the tonal relations within the image!

Either way: I had a lot of fun applying the colour there boldly with the palette knife.

Ostsee Pleinair Festival Seebrücke Kühlungsborn im Sonnenuntergang

Und dann war da da schon mein letzter Abend an der Ostsee...

Ich bin nochmal zurück an den wunderschönen Sonnenuntergangs Spot an der Marina - und dieses mal war ich vorbereitet und hatte eine große schöne leere Leinwand dabei, um das tolle Licht hinter der Seebrücke von Kühlungsborn zu malen.

(was man im Bild nicht sieht: es war dort so richtig kalt... brrrr....)

Aber ...hach:
schön war's!

And then there was my last evening at the Baltic Sea....

I went back to the beautiful sunset spot at the marina - and this time I was prepared and had a big beautiful blank canvas with me to paint the great light behind the pier of Kühlungsborn.

(what you can't see in the picture: it was really cold there... brrrr....)

But ...*sigh:

it was beautiful!

I'll be back......

Ostsee Pleinair Festival Ausstellung Kunsthalle Kühlungsborn

Abschlussausstellung des Ostsee Pleinair Festivals - meine Bilder (und andere...)

Als krönender Abschluss des Ostsee Pleianir Festivals wurde dann die Ausstellung mit den Bildern aller Teilnehmer eröffnet:

Das ist so toll, zu sehen, was alles in der kurzen Zeit entstanden ist - so eine Vielfalt!

Es macht Spaß die Bilder zu sehen und die dazugehörigen Maler*innen kennenzulernen, sich auszutauschen – und sich schon für nächstes Jahr zu verabreden :-)

Außerdem gab es eine Preisverleihung:

Eine Jury hat die 3 "besten" Bilder der Ausstellung prämiert.

Auch wenn ich insgesamt nicht verstehe, dass aus so etwas freiem und subjektivem wie der Malerei ein Wettbewerb entstehen soll, fühle ich mich sehr geehrt, das ich mit meinem Dünenbild den 2. Platz überreicht bekam.

Ganz lieben Dank dafür – und noch mehr für die Organisation dieses wunderbaren Events!

Ich werde auf jeden Fall im nächsten Jahr wieder dabei sein!!!

As a crowning finale of the Ostsee Pleianir Festival, the exhibition with the paintings of all participants was opened:

It's so great to see everything that has been created in such a short time - such a variety!

It's fun to see the paintings and to get to know the painters, to exchange ideas - and to make plans for next year :-)

There was also an award ceremony:

A jury awarded prizes to the 3 "best" paintings of the exhibition.

Even though I don't understand why a competition should arise from something as free and subjective as painting, I feel very honoured that I was awarded 2nd place with my dune painting.

Thank you very much for that - and even more for organising this wonderful event!

I will definitely be back next year!!! 

Ostsee Pleinair Festival Fischerboote im Hafen Kühlungsborn

Mein dritter Tag in Kühlungsborn.

Bevor nachmittags die Ausstellung (mit Preisverleihung!) startet, habe ich ganz gemütlich auf der Mole im Hafen gesessen und diese schönen Fischerboote gemalt (und dabei weltbeste Schoko Franzbrötchen von der Bäckerei Jung gefrühstückt).

Während ich dort saß führte ich nebenher nette Gespräche mit Passanten, und erfuhr unter anderem, dass das grüne Boot Emma heißt :-)

jetzt wo ich das Locationfoto mit zeitlichem Abstand sehe, denke ich, ich hätte die Spiegelung der Boote einfacher halten sollen - als ich diese aber malte, wr das Wasser fast wie ein Spiegel, und das konnte ich doch nicht ignorieren... !

 My third day in Kühlungsborn.

Before the exhibition (with award ceremony!) starts in the afternoon, I sat comfortably on the pier in the harbour and painted these beautiful fishing boats (and had the world's best chocolate Franzbrötchen from Bäckerei Jung for breakfast).

While I was sitting there, I had nice chats with passers-by and learned that the green boat is called Emma :-)

Now that I see the location photo with time distance, I think I should have kept the reflection of the boats simpler - but when I painted them, the water almost looked like a mirror, and I couldn't ignore that... !

Ostsee Pleinair Festival Uferpromenade Kühlungsborn

 

Keine Ahnung, was mich geritten hat, dass ich nur eineinhalb Stunden vor Ende der Abgabefrist der Bilder noch so ein komplexes Motiv angefangen habe - aber der Zeitdruck bewirkte, dass ich all die Details wirklich ganz ganz einfach und rough gemalt habe... das war also trotz der Hetze gut so!

Mit mehr Zeit hätte ich mit Sicherheit viel zu viel gefrickelt :-)

Das war somit leider schon das letzte Bild im Rahmen des Ostsee Pleinair Festivals.
Am Abend hat das Organistaionsteam alle Bilder der Teilnehmer, die in den letzten beiden Tagen entstanden sind, für die Ausstellung am nächsten Tag gehängt.

Natürlich habe ich danach aber noch weiter gemalt :-)

I don't know what possessed me to start such a complex motif only one and a half hours before the deadline for submitting the paintings - but the time pressure meant that I painted all the details really quite simply and roughly... so that was good, despite the rush!

With more time I would have fiddled too much :-)

So this was the last painting of the Ostsee Pleinair Festival.

In the evening, the organising team hung all the paintings of the participants, which were taken during the last two days, for the exhibition the next day.

Of course, I continued painting afterwards :-)

Ostsee Pleinair Festival Düne Contre Jour

 

Zurück in Kühlungsborn malte ich dann ganz entspannt im sitzen diesen Ausschnitt einer Düne.

Nach den der komplexen Szene zuvor tat es richtig gut so ein CloseUp zu malen. Auch dass die Sonne wieder rauskam war schön - denn es wurde zuvor richtig kühl ohne sie.

Dieses Bild wurde tatsächlich noch am gleichen Abend von einer der anderen Malerinnen gekauft, kurz nachdem ich es in der Kunsthalle abgegeben hatte :-)

Back in Kühlungsborn, I relaxed while painted this dune.

After the complex scene before, it was really good to paint a close-up like this. It was also nice that the sun came out again - because it had been really cool without it.

This painting was actually bought the same evening by one of the other painters, shortly after I had handed it in at the Kunsthalle :-)

Ostsee Pleinair Festival Gespensterwald

Tag 2 des Ostsee Pleinair Festivals.

Nachdem ich gleich früh morgens im Festivalbüro meine Leinwände habe abstempeln lassen, fuhr ich mit Birthe, eine Malerin, die ich durch meinen Domestikakurs kannte, etwas weiter östlich nach Nienhagen um den Gespensterwald zu malen.

Diesen magischen Ort entdeckte ich als ich dort auf der Hinfahrt durchradelte, er hat eine wirklich besonders schöne Atmosphäre.

Währen wir dort malten zogen leider Wolken auf, so daß ich froh war den Schattenwurf der hohen Buchen auf den Strand schon gleich am Anfang gemalt zu haben....

Day 2 of the Ostsee Pleinair Festival.

After I had my canvases stamped at the festival office early in the morning, I went with Birthe, a painter I knew from my Domestika course, a little further east to Nienhagen to paint the Gespensterwald.

I discovered this magical place when I cycled through there 2 days before on my way to Kühlungsborn, it has a really beautiful atmosphere.

Unfortunately, clouds came up while we were painting there, so I was glad to have painted the shadows cast by the tall beeches on the beach right at the beginning....
